This used Concept 2 SkiErg has sold. It is still here because the photographs and the detail are worth keeping, and because it tells you what to expect the next time one comes through. Black frame, PM5 monitor, floor stand with the timber base platform, around 95,000 metres.

What we check on every SkiErg

• Both pull cords run the full length without fraying or catching.
• Cord return is strong and even on both sides.
• Flywheel spins free, damper moves through all ten settings.
• Mast and mount checked for play at the base.

Why SkiErgs are hard to find

Concept2 sells far fewer SkiErgs than RowErgs, and the people who buy one tend to keep it. When a used one is listed in Australia it usually goes quickly and often to someone who had been watching for months. We source them when we can and they do not sit on the floor long.

Why the floor stand matters

A SkiErg without a stand has to be bolted to a wall, which rules it out for renters and anyone who does not want to drill into brick. With the stand it is free-standing: it can go in a garage, a spare room, or on a balcony, and it moves when you do. The timber platform under this one is the version Concept2 sells with it, not a home-made substitute.

What these sell for

The SkiErg alone is $1,650 to $1,700 new in Australia, and the floor stand adds several hundred on top. This one sold at $1,249 with both, which is the sort of gap that explains why they move quickly. The new versus used page sets out the comparisons across the whole range.

Warranty and delivery on the next one

This one is gone, but the terms do not change: thirty days on working parts, seven days to return it if we described it wrongly, set out in full on the warranty page. Delivery is Australia-wide and quoted at checkout, with collection from the Perth workshop by appointment, explained on the delivery page.

SkiErg or rower

They train different things. A rower loads the legs first and the back second, and most people can hold a steady pace on one for half an hour. A SkiErg loads the upper body and core, spikes the heart rate fast, and is much harder to sit in the middle of for a long time.

If you already own a rower, the SkiErg is the machine that fills the gap. If you own neither and you want one, the rower is the more versatile starting point. Concept2 sets out the differences on its SkiErg page.
