Description
This used Concept 2 RowErg black and gold has covered under 1,000 metres. You cannot order that finish new in Australia: Concept2 sells black, and black and gold was a limited run. It came to us from a home gym in Perth where it stayed indoors and barely moved, and it is graded A because there is nothing to grade down.
What we checked before it got a price
- Chain pulled, cleaned and lubricated. No stiff links, no wear at the cog.
- Flywheel spins free, damper clicks through all ten settings without slipping.
- Monorail wiped and inspected end to end. Seat runs smooth with no catch.
- Footrests adjust on both sides, straps clean and holding.
- PM5 powers on, holds a charge, pairs over Bluetooth and ANT+.
- Frame, welds and legs checked for cracks or bends. None.
- Rowed for ten minutes, then checked the split consistency against a known machine.
- Photographed before cleaning, so what you see is what arrived.
Why the colourway is worth having
Concept2 has run a handful of special finishes over the years and the black and gold is the one people ask about. It is the same frame, the same flywheel and the same PM5 as every other RowErg, so nothing about the way it rows changes. What changes is that it does not look like the rower in every gym in the country.
That matters more than it sounds when you come to sell it. A standard black RowErg competes with dozens of identical machines. This one competes with almost none, which is why the same trim has held its value in the second-hand market even on machines with far more metres on them than this one.
What $1,299 buys against new
A new RowErg is $1,705 direct from Concept2 Australia, and Rebel Sport lists it at $1,899. At $1,299 this is $406 under the manufacturer price for a machine with under 1,000 metres on it, which is roughly one warm-up. Delivery and warranty
Delivery is Australia-wide and quoted at checkout, or you can collect from the Perth workshop by appointment and row it before you pay. Machines travel in two boxes with the bolts bagged and labelled. The delivery page has the detail.
Working parts are covered for 30 days from delivery, and you have seven days to tell us if it is not what we described. The terms are short enough to read in full on the warranty page. Every machine also goes over the same bench before listing, which is set out step by step on the grading page.
About the finish
Concept2 has produced special colourways in small numbers over the years alongside the standard black. They are the same machine: same frame, same flywheel, same PM5, same warranty from the manufacturer. The current lineup and standard finishes are on Concept2s RowErg page.
What a special finish changes is resale. When you come to sell, you are competing with one or two other listings rather than fifty identical black rowers, which is why these hold their value better than the standard colour despite doing exactly the same job.
