Why a low-metre RowErg is worth paying for
Concept2 builds these to run for millions of metres in commercial gyms before anything needs attention. Under 5,000 metres is not a used machine in any meaningful sense, it is a machine someone unpacked, tried twice, and then sold.
The practical effect is that you skip the whole category of problems that come with worn rowers: no stretched chain, no flat spots in the rollers, no monitor with a tired battery compartment. What you get is a machine at the start of its life at $305 under the $1,705 Concept2 charges for a new one.
What grade B means here
Grade B on this machine is cosmetic only. There are marks on the frame from handling and storage, and they are photographed in the gallery rather than described away. Nothing about them affects the row, and nothing about them is structural.

What the PM5 actually tracks
Every stroke, the PM5 records split time per 500 metres, watts, calories per hour, stroke rate, elapsed time and total distance. Pair a chest strap and it adds heart rate. It holds a lifetime meters reading that survives battery changes, which is how a buyer can verify what the machine has done.
It connects over Bluetooth and ANT+ to the free ErgData app and the Concept2 logbook, and to Garmin, Polar and most training platforms. Concept2 publishes the full feature set and the retrofit options on its PM5 support page, including which older machines it will fit.
