Description

A Used Concept 2 RowErg Model E for sale in Australia, in black, with under 100,000 metres on the PM5. The Model E is the tall one: a 20 inch seat height instead of 14, a heavier frame, and a nickel plated finish that shrugs off sweat. If getting on and off a rower is the thing that stops you rowing, this is the machine that fixes it.

• Nickel plated frame inspected for lifting or corrosion. None.
• Test-rowed before listing, including a mount and dismount from standing.

Why pay for a Model E

The Model E exists for people who find the standard rower awkward. The seat sits about 15 cm higher, so you are getting on at roughly chair height rather than crouching to the floor. For anyone with knee or hip trouble, or anyone who has watched a parent struggle to get off a Model D, that difference is the whole product.

It is also the tougher of the two. The frame is heavier, the finish is nickel plated rather than painted, and the whole thing was built for the wear a commercial gym puts on equipment. Concept2 discontinued the Model E in 2021 and replaced it with the RowErg in a tall-leg option, so used is now the only way to buy one.

On the price

Used Concept 2 RowErg Model Es are rare, and there are usually only a handful listed in Australia at any time. You will find cheaper ones privately, and it is worth knowing what you are comparing: this one is graded A with under 100,000 metres, has been serviced and test-rowed, and arrives with 30 days on working parts and a delivery arrangement rather than a stranger in a car park. What a private seller cannot tell you is what the damper felt like at every setting, because nobody checked.

What $1,500 buys against new

Concept2 no longer sells the Model E new in Australia. The nearest equivalent is a RowErg on tall legs at $1,705, which is essentially the same machine under the current name. Model E, or a RowErg on tall legs

When Concept2 retired the letters in 2021, the Model E became the RowErg with tall legs. Same 20 inch seat height, same heavier frame, new name. If you are comparing this against a new machine, that is the one to price against, and the current lineup is on Concept2s RowErg page.

Practically there is very little between them. The older Model E has a nickel plated frame that is arguably tougher than the painted finish on the current model, which is one reason people seek them out. The current one has a slightly revised monitor arm.
