Concept 2 Dynamic Indoor Rower

$1,800.00

Description

This is a used Concept 2 Dynamic rower for sale in Australia, and it is the machine people come back for after they have tried one. Instead of a sliding seat it holds your feet still and moves the foot carriage under you, which changes the feel entirely. Light grey frame, PM3 monitor, graded A.

What we checked before it got a price

  • Foot carriage runs the full length of the rail without catching or grinding.
  • Rail and rollers cleaned, inspected for flat spots.
  • Flywheel spins free, damper moves through all ten settings.
  • Pull cord checked for fraying at both ends.
  • Seat and handle checked for play in the mounts.
  • PM3 powers on and reads distance, split and stroke rate correctly.
  • Frame and welds inspected. No cracks at the carriage end, which is where they show.
  • Rowed on it before listing, and compared the feel against a standard Model D.

What the Dynamic actually is

Most indoor rowers fix the flywheel and slide the seat. The Dynamic does the opposite: your feet stay put and the machine travels under you, so your body mass moves far less with every stroke. Rowers describe it as the closest thing to a boat on dry land, and coaches buy them for exactly that reason, because the load at the catch behaves more like water and less like a machine.

It is also gentler on the lower back, which is the other reason people sell themselves into one. If you have stopped rowing because a standard erg leaves your back sore, this is the change worth making.

The trade-off is honest: it is rarer, it costs more, and it takes a little longer to learn. Concept2 rates it for the same commercial use as everything else they build.

Why this one

Dynamics come up for sale far less often than Model Ds, and most that do have spent years in a rowing club with the metres to show for it. This one is graded A, which means no faults, no visible wear and nothing that needs replacing before you use it. The PM3 is the older monitor rather than the PM5, and that is reflected in the price.

What $1,800 buys

A new Dynamic is the most expensive rower Concept2 makes, and it is not stocked by most Australian retailers. A standard RowErg at $1,705 does not do what this machine does. Full comparisons against new sit on the new versus used page.

Delivery and warranty

Australia-wide delivery quoted at checkout, or collect from the Perth workshop by appointment. Two boxes, bolts bagged, monitor boxed separately. See the delivery page for what that looks like.

Thirty days on working parts, seven days to return it if we described it wrong. Written out in full on the warranty page. The inspection every machine goes through is on the grading page, and if you are weighing it against a standard rower, the FAQ covers the common question.

The monitor, and what a PM3 costs you

The PM3 does everything you need to train: split, distance, stroke rate, calories, elapsed time. What it does not do is talk to anything. No Bluetooth, no ANT+, so no ErgData, no heart rate strap, no logbook sync.

If that matters to you, Concept2 sells the PM5 as a retrofit that bolts straight on, and the PM5 support page sets out which older machines it fits. Doing that later puts you at the same total as a machine that came with one, and you get the choice.

Graded A. Approximately 35,000 metres, PM3 monitor, light grey frame. Photographed as it sits.
